Photo Gallery

A large scale fossil mural featuring fish from Wyoming. Fossil fish occur in great abundance within the beds of what was once fossil lake Uinta- now part of the Green River Shale formation. During the Eocene Epoch of geological time (50,000,000 years ago) volcanic or climatic changes likely occurred, which disrupted the lake‘s ecology and created massive fish mortality. Several species occur, including Knightia alt, K. eocaena, and Diplomystus analis.
